Rajasthan’s Contribution to Indian Cinema (Bollywood)

Rajasthan is blessed to have many talented people who worked for Indian cinema, whether they are technicians, singers, composers or actors. Rajasthan has produced many of these. Rajasthan’s contribution starts from very initial days of Indian Cinema. Rajasthan’s people also contributed financially and artistically. We will discuss few of the individuals who worked for Indian Cinema (Bollywood).

Film Producers


Rajasthan has given some of the most reputed film producers in the history of the Indian Cinema like
Tarachand Badjatya, KC Bokadia and Sooraj Badjatya are names of the few. The great Rajshri Productions was established by none other then Tarachand Badjatya.  Films like ‘Hum Aapke Hai Kaun’, ‘Hum Sath Sath Hai’, ‘Dosti’, ‘Vivah’, ‘Ek Vivah Aisa Bhi’, ‘ Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ etc. are produced by Rajasthani Producers.

Rajasthan has given many musical gems who have contributed to film music, whether as a music composer, singer or as a musician.  We will talk about some of them.

Music Composers

Rajasthan has produced some of the best music directors of the Indian cinema some of them are as follows.


Ghulam Mohammad
Ghulam Mohammad:
Ghulam Mohammed had given some of the most remembered music in the films. He has composed music for movies like ‘Pakizah.',’Mirza Ghalib’ etc. Ghulam Mohammad got national film award for his film ‘Mirza Ghalib’. He was from Bikaner, Rajasthan.











Khemchand Prakash:
Khemchand Prakash was from Sujangarh, Rajasthan. He was the one who introduced Kishor Kumar to the film industry. Khemchand Prakash has given music for ‘Mahal’ for which Lata Mangeshkar got recognition. He died at the very young age of 42.

Toshi Sabri:  Toshi Sabri is a young budding music composer from Rajasthan. He was discovered by a reality show Amul Star Voice of India. He also participated in Ustaado ke Ustaad and Jo jeeta wo Superstar. He has given music for Raaj, Jail, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya, etc.





Singers

Rajasthan has given a lot of legend singers to Indian Film Industry, Kawwali, Classical and Ghazal singing. Some of the Noted singers are as follows.


Jagjit Singh:
Jagjit Singh was a famous Ghazal singer. He was born in Sri Ganganagar (then Bikaner State) in a Punjabi Sikh Family. He composed numerous Ghazals and was appreciated all over the world for his singing style.   He sang wo Kagaz ki kasti, Hosh walo ko Khabar Kya, Chitthi Na Koi Sandesh, Tum Itna Jo Muskura Rahe Ho, etc. He got Padma Bhushan from Government of India.

Mehdi Hassan:
Mehdi Hassan was born in Luna village of Jhunjhunu district in a family of musicians in 1927. He went to Pakistan at the time of partition. He was famous for his singing style in all over the world.




Ila Arun: Ila Arun was born in Jaipur, she is known for her masculine voice. She is also an actor. Ila has sung many songs in Bollywood. Most famous of them is ‘Choli Ke Piche Kya Hai’ in movie Khalnayak. She also sang ‘Morni’ along with Lata Mangeshkar in film Lamhe. She has also sung a Tamil song under the composer A R Rahman.

Raja Hasan:
Raja Hasan was runner-up in Zee Sa Re Ga Ma Pa in 2007. He was born in Bikaner, Rajasthan in the year 1979. He has sung many songs in Bollywood. He got first his break by acknowledged music director duo Vishal-Shekhar for song Mhari Titri. He also produced a Rajasthani film ‘Marudhar Mharo Ghar.




Sandeep Acharya:








 Sandeep also belonged to Bikaner. He was the winner of the 2nd season of Indian Idol. He has sung some songs in Bollywood and Rajasthani Cinema. He died on 15 December 2013 due to jaundice.

Hence we see Rajasthani people have given many people in Bollywood Cinema. Rajasthan’s contribution in Bollywood is immense. There are a lot of other people from Rajasthan in Bollywood of which we will discuss in another article.
